Phosphate is one of the most important fertilizers which plays an important role in the plant and crop growth.
1.    Where Does the Phosphorus Fertilizers Come From?

Phosphorus fertilizers are produced from phosphate rocks, which is converted into phosphoric acid first and then concentrated or mixed with ammonia to make a range of phosphorus fertilizers.

2.   How Many Phosphate Fertilizers Are There?

It can be classified into low-concentration and high-concentration phosphate fertilizers according to the phosphorus content. Low concentration phosphate includes superphosphate (SSP) and fused calcium magnesium phosphate (FCMP). The content of phosphorus pentoxide (P2O5) in high-concentration phosphate fertilizer is more than 20%, including monoammonium phosphate (MAP), diammonium phosphate (DAP), heavy calcium phosphate (TSP), and nitrophosphate fertilizer (NP).
3.    Phosphate Fertilizer in China

The phosphates output in China increased from 6,817,200 tons in 2000 to 16,274,400 tons in 2017, with a compound annual growth rate of 5.25%.

The phosphate fertilizer in China is mainly used in agriculture with more than 90% used in plantation. Corn, vegetable, wheat and rice are the main crops consuming phosphate fertilizer in China, accounting for 22%, 16%, 15% and 14% of total phosphate fertilizer consumption respectively.

4.    Phosphate Fertilizer Supply and Demand Analysis
Global Supply

Phosphate fertilizer is mainly concentrated in countries or regions with abundant phosphate resources or high demand. The production and use of phosphate fertilizers are mainly MAP and DAP.
MAP is mainly concentrated in China, the United States and Russia, accounting for about 87% of the total.

DAP is concentrated in large demand countries like China, India, and the United States, accounting for about 66% of the total. Besides, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Mexico and other countries rich in phosphate resources have also been increasing their market shares in recent years.

Supply in China

China's phosphate fertilizer production capacity is mainly concentrated in Hubei, Guizhou and Yunnan provinces, accounting for two-thirds of China's total phosphate fertilizer production. Hubei is the largest producer in China accounting for one-third of the total phosphate fertilizer production.

China, India, Brazil and the United States are the world's leading consumers of phosphate fertilizer, accounting for more than 67 percent of global consumption. China is the largest phosphate fertilizer consumer with a consuming amount about 8 to 9 million tons, followed by India with the phosphate fertilizer demand of 5 million to 6 million tons, Brazil with the consuming amount of 3 million tons, and North America of 3.8 million tons.
The global demand for phosphate fertilizer is rising steadily under the influence of increasing population and arable land area, and the recovery of grain prices. The global population is expected to reach 8.6 billion by 2030. Affected by this, the arable land will also be increased to meet the food demand of the rising population.
Besides, the price increase of agricultural products has boosted profit margin of agriculture and the enthusiasm of farmers to increase production, which will further promote the demand for phosphate fertilizer.
